Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t work or hasn’t worked on a Construction Site.

At GRAFT we understand what it means to wake up every morning in the dark and go to work in a dusty, filthy sh*thole where you’re undervalued, verbally abused, taken for granted and treated like an expendable, replaceable cog in a machine.

We understand what it feels like mentally and physically to do overtime every night and work every Saturday. How it feels to mean nothing to your employer, to never be encouraged, recognised or praised for your hard graft and effort.

We also understand why you do it. Why you keep turning up to work in this type of environment 6 days a week - every f**king week...

You only work in Construction for 2 reasons:

1. The Money

2. Your Family

No one would do this work unless the money was good. You earn big coin because the hours are big, the risks are big and the sacrifices are big – and you make those sacrifices for your family and those you love.

As a Construction Worker, the reality is your company owns you from the minute you arrive at work until the end of your shift. Other than 2 x Smoko’s (if you’re lucky) you are not free to do anything for yourself the entire day.

50+ hour weeks physically working every single minute you are there… wishing the time away until you are finally free to wash up, grab your bag and head home.

As a Construction Worker there’s no pride in your work or sense of accomplishment.

Sure, the building or the project you work on might get completed and handed over but there's no feeling of achievement as a worker.

Half the time when you finish up on a job you walk out the gates and don't even look back.

**There’s no “I built this” cr@p!**

That's because regardless of whether you work in Commercial, Civil, Rail or Mining – if you put on a Hard Hat to go to work your job mostly consists of Pressure, Stress and Pain.

Pressure from your boss, the foreman or the builder.

Stress about redundancy and uncertainty. Stress about where the next job will be after this one finishes.

Other than a few laughs with your mates at work… there’s no joy, there’s no fulfilment. It’s painful to be there, the type of pain you can only understand if you’ve done this type of work.

That’s what makes it brutal.

There is no “easy” Construction Work. No one looks forward to going to site. No one finds it easy.
